8 Ways to Stay Safe When Using an ATM

It is the age of the plastic money and you will probably use an ATM to take out cash instead of going to the bank every time. ATM’s can be found everywhere and it makes life simpler. You can also do a lot of other transactions in the ATM as it is not only for withdrawing cash. It keeps you mobile but there are also a lot of dangers lurking around when you use an ATM and you need to be pretty careful. Here are ways to stay safe when using an ATM.

1. Do not use an ATM in the middle of the night if you are alone and there is no one with you

Using an ATM all by yourself in the middle of the night is asking for trouble. Anyone following you would know that you not only have cash but have a card with more money in it. Even if you do not have a lot of money, you are risking being robbed. Carry out your transactions in the daylight and stay safe.

2. Make sure no one is looking at the machine when you are entering your PIN number

Your PIN number should be kept safe and secret at all times. When you are entering your PIN number make sure no one is looking at it. If you feel like someone saw your number or know for sure, walk away without making any transactions and change your PIN number immediately.

3. Do not go to a deserted ATM machine

Do not go to an ATM machine in a deserted place. It is as bad as using the ATM in the middle of the night. You are asking for trouble and putting you at risk. Use an ATM machine in the day where there are people walking about and here you can be sure of help in case of trouble.

4. Do not click on offers that you see on the ATM machine

They might be from the bank, but that does not mean you should click on it. The ATM is not the place to check out these things. Get back home and sign in online at your bank portal to check these things.

5. If your card get caught nside the ATM machine, notify your bank immediately

Sometimes it can just take some time for the machine to process your card, so do not keep pressing too many buttons. If your card does get caught inside, notify your bank immediately.

6. Never count your cash near the ATM machine

You will be holding up the other people and not will let other people know how much cash you are carrying. This is never a good thing.

7. Do not carry expensive things or leave your bag on the floor when you are using the ATM

Chances are that you might forget about it or someone can take it away when you are engrossed in the transaction.

8. If you are being robbed at an ATM point, comply

The cameras would record everything and may also get the face of your assailant. Resisting can put your life in danger.
