A trench coat is a must-have for the wardrobe of every woman for it can be worn at any time of the year. Use cold water to wash the coat

Coats should always be hand-washed and that too in cold water. This is an absolute must unless you would want your coat to wear off its glaze and look before time.

Dry clean them often

The cleaners would do a much better job than either you or the washing machine. So, you must trust them with the coat. Do remember to mention the hand wash and cold water part though.

Reproof your coat

Reproofing your coat would mean weather proofing it against sun, water and snow. This would ensure that your coat doesn’t turn to rags with a little wear and tear. Most labels reproof their coats and make a mention of this. However, if yours isn’t, make sure you take it to the dry cleaner’s and they would surely do it for you.

Take your time while cleaning the coat

The basic style of the trench coat, unlike most coats, is to have a little weathered and beaten feel to it. Thus, take your time in cleaning your coat as tidy and crisp is not the style that fits it.

Do the belts and tabs along with the coat

Most people clean the coat differently and the belt and the tab differently. This process completely ruins the coat as it would result in the coat being of a different shade and the the belts and the tabs being of a different shade of the same color, which would take the appeal off a good coat.

Always hang the coat

If you really want your coat to last you a good while and be able to wear it again, be sure to hang it than crumpling or folding it up while storing. Hanging a coat ensures that it stays in perfect shape and is just the way you wore it the very first time.

Store in a cedar bag

Storing your coat in a cedar bag is a good tip as it prevents your coat from becoming a victim of moths, insects and other pests that might ruin it completely.

A good coat is always considered as a treasure. It makes you look smart and covers up for any faux pas. It has an added appeal and looks fab with almost anything. Prevention is always better than cure and so taking good care of your coat would ensure that it lasts you a fair amount of time.
