Your skin must be taken care of every day, every season. But summer is an important time of the year when you must pay extra attention towards your skin. Here are some awesome ways to take care of skin in summer.
1. Apply sunscreen whenever you step out
Excessive sun exposure has been proven to increase the risk of melanoma. Sunscreens are highly recommended to prevent risk of skin cancer. Sunscreens are available in different forms today and include the likes of creams, lotions, gels, sprays and wax sticks. The most important thing to know about sunscreens is its SPF or Sun Protection Factor. Sunscreens must be used at least 20 to 30 minutes prior to stepping out in the sun. Use adequately so that all exposed areas of your skin are completely covered. Make sure your sunscreen is water resistant. If you swim or sweat, reapply every two hours.
2. Apply sunscreen on all exposed areas
One of the common mistakes is to apply sunscreen only on the face. Neck, chest, hands and feet and other usual exposed areas also face the brunt of sun exposure. Using creams with SPF on your hands 20 minutes before driving is also important to prevent sun exposure risks.
3. Stay hydrated
Summer is a time when there is maximum loss of water from your body. Replenish your body’s water levels by drinking plenty of fluids. Carry water every time you go out so you aren’t deprived of water when your body craves for it.
4. Take care of your feet
Summer is when winter boots get packed and out come your sandals and stilettos. If you want your feet to look the best, you must get a pedicure done. Alternatively, exfoliate those dead skin cells that make your feet look dull behind that lovely footwear.
5. Do not step out when it is really hot
Even if you are using the best of sunscreens, it is better not to step out between 10 AM and 3 PM. This is when ultraviolet rays of the sun are at their maximum and can affect your skin greatly.
6. Don’t give in to the obsession of tanned skin
Sunbathing in the harshest sunlight is the worst thing you can do to your skin. When you do this, you only end up causing irreparable damage to your skin and add another 20 years to your skin’s age. Dehydration and wrinkling are primary problems of sunbathing.
7. Apply perfume on your clothes
Wanting to smell good, especially in summers, when the body tends to sweat a lot seems like a perfect idea. But stepping out in the sun with perfume on skin can stain skin. Instead, spritz your clothes with a perfume of your choice. You get the advantage of smelling good and do not cause any irritation on skin as well.
8. Moisturize your skin
Summers are when your skin seems to appear hydrated and moisturized. But don’t be fooled. Summers are also the time you sweat, swim and take frequent showers. When you combine them with your beauty routine like shaving, you end up depleting your skin’s natural moisture levels. Moisturizing is an important need even in the summers. Find a moisturizer that is ideal for your skin and apply liberally every day.
9. Take care of your lips
Sometimes we pay a lot of attention to our face but forget the lips. Lips can be equally damaged because of different internal and external factors. Sun is one of the biggest culprits that can make your lips look dull and chapped. If you wear a lipstick, choose one that has SPF. Else, pick a lip balm that has SPF 15 or higher.
