How to Get Rid of Stress While Facing Major Problems?

How to Get Rid of Stress While Facing Major Problems?
Our body releases stress hormones when we are facing a potentially dangerous situation. For example, when a person chases you with a knife, your automatic instinct will be to run. Stress hormones give you an energy boost and you find yourself running faster than you ever thought you could, until the danger passes. These stress hormones are supposed to be used only during emergencies. But the present world is such that you cannot get through a day without biting your nails off. Stress is present everywhere, be it family, job, school or college. The need to deal with stress has become as common as the common cold. A little stress is good but when we begin to get stressed at every petty thing, we know it is time to take precautions. Here are a few points on how you can play the game calmly even when you have to face the worst of situations. Here’s how to get rid of stress while facing major problems.

1. Taking regular intervals

Working continuously can be very stressful. Taking short breaks between work can help reduce the stress. If you feel that taking breaks often is a waste of time, you can always focus on another task that requires your attention. This is where multitasking actually helps relieve stress. It distracts you enough to get your mind off the demanding task.

2. Meditation

When you feel tensed or anxious, close your eyes for a few moments and try to clear your mind. Meditation works wonders on a stressed out mind.

3. Exercising

Exercising or doing yoga is one of the most effective stress controlling measures you can take. Exercising not just relieves you of stress, it also helps prevent it. The quiet time you get while exercising clears and relaxes your mind. A fit person is always better at handling stress.

4. Calm yourself

You can calm yourself down in many ways. Light a scented candle and drift off in its aroma or listen to your favorite music. Better than that is to just wander off into a park and listen to the wind rustling the leaves and the birds chirping. The beauty in all the little things will make your day less stressful. Some find pleasantly odd ways to relieve themselves by either popping bubble wraps or squeezing the stress ball repeatedly until calm.

5. Have a positive attitude

Think positive at all times. Keep all negative thoughts away. One should practise this habit and learn to notice and appreciate the good side in everything and everyone. If you don’t see the bad side, it is very unlikely that it will cause you stress.

6. Eat healthy

A good diet helps your body deal with stress better. Eat at least one meal that is home cooked and make sure that you include leafy veggies in it. Canned and packed food is best avoided or only had on specific occasions. A healthy body will keep your thoughts and mind healthy.

7. Early to bed and early to rise

Working late hours isn’t good for your body and mind. A good sleep can ease your mind to an unbelievable extent. It prevents you from getting cranky and tensed. If at all you have a little extra work to complete before entering office, work on it in the morning.

8. Laugh often

Having a good sense of humor will lighten your mood as well as of those around you. Joking around and laughing is healthy in a work environment as long as you don’t overdo it.

9. Take deep breaths

This is a simple and effective technique that gives immediate results. Breathing deep restricts your stress level from rising. Plus by preventing stress from taking over you can complete your task with a much cooler mind.

10. Communicate

Talking to a close friend or a colleague is always helpful in relieving yourself of stress. The more you keep to yourself, the more nerve-wracking it gets. Share your work and share your thoughts about it. Having someone to communicate with will give you some moral support.

11. Organize your work

Prevention is better than cure. Organizing all your tasks in proper order will keep stress from becoming overwhelming. Use a planner and keep track of all that you’ve done and that which has to be done. Getting your priorities in order can help your break down your task into easy, convenient pieces so that you can focus on each piece independently without overexciting and draining yourself.

12. Learn to say no

You cannot always do everything that you are asked to do by your peers. Say ‘No’ when you know you cannot handle the task without straining yourself. No amount of money is worth putting your health at risk.

13. Learn to forgive

When situations come, it is important that you apologize to make things right. Also, learn to forgive others for their mistakes. Their mistake might have caused problems and some sleepless nights but by forgiving, you can let go of things that aren’t really that important. More importantly, you should forgive yourself. Feeling guilty adds to stress.

14. Avoid unnecessary trouble

You needn’t always take the whole world on your shoulders. If something is not required immediately or if it is stressful but you don’t find it to be worth the trouble, try and avoid it. It can also include people in your life like maybe a boss or a colleague or a friend whom you cannot connect with and who always adds to your worries rather than helps you with it. In short, make your life simple and easy.

15. Do nothing

Doing nothing is often underestimated. When feeling uncomfortable and tensed, take a short break from everything. Think about nothing. Open a window and breath deep. Stare blankly into space. This will help immensely in controlling your mind and gaining patience. It will also make you feel more alive. The time out can make you feel like the task at hand is no big deal. Just relax and let the stress find its way out.
Adopt a couple of the above ideas and de-stress your life. If at all you find yourself being taken over by stress and unease, do not hesitate to seek professional help.
